Introducing....My SP!

My fabulous secret pal is Pennie. In the last box, she sent a hank of yarn that she hand dyed. She has a shop on etsy, Extreme Yarn, be sure to check it out. There were also stitch markers, Clover cirular needles and kiwi melon shower gel and lotion. But let's talk about the box itself...a knitter's box. Pennie decoupaged all kinds of knitterly references to the box. And on the top of the inside is a pattern for a felted needle case. Thank you so much Pennie!

A Couple of Quickies

I took a little time away from the Starsky cardigan. Y'all know that I'm a knitting whore and I can't spend too much time on one project. After the Punky Pattern Party (channeling the late, great Bob Marley), that Jill hosted, I got a whole slew of new patterns to obsess over. I made a couple Artisan cuffs from a Rowan magazine...not sure which one, because I looked through a million patterns that day at the party. These cuffs are awesome! They are easy to make (a great quick and dirty project)and the end result is really cute!

Here is a close-up of the buttons nestled in the cables:

It takes about an hour to crank out one and maybe another 20 minutes to add buttons and lining to the back. They make really great gifts, as these are intended, and I plan to make several for myself. Wanna see pics of the aforementioned pattern exchange? Check out Jessica's, Michelle's, Katy's and Heather's blogs. Great food, great friends, great fun! And after flipping through all those patterns, there are a couple books out there that I must buy, because you know, I need more pattern books.

Project Spectrum: Red & Pink

I started the Interweave garter baby kimono for my friend Jennifer's baby. Good thing her shower is at the end of next month because this is really slow going. It's on size 4's...my smallest needles yet...and it seems like it takes hours to finish an inch. I will probably never make this again. And this scares me because all of the summer sweaters from Rowan that I want to knit use size 2's & 3's. This Peter Pan yarn I'm using also has shades of yellow and lilac but it reads pink, right?

Starsky

I've been dilligently working away on my Starsky cardigan...my first attempt at cabling and I am very pleased.
Here is the back of Starsky:

Close-up of the banana leaf cable:

Since this is turning out so nicely, my confidence is boosted enough to try double points. I've gotten a few sock patterns and a couple skeins of sock yarn and I just recently purchased some dpns. So, pretty soon I'll have that crossed off my 'haven't done that yet' list.

Clearing Out the Stash

I have too much yarn! Is that a sacrilegeous statement? Anyway, my apartment is only so big and I can't hold it all without the boy finding out about it....he would not approve of such excessive yarn purchases especially when I ALWAYS cry broke. The prices include shipping so let me know if you are interested.

SP Strikes Again

I got home to find a package waiting for me! My SP sent me a Winnie the Pooh bank. How cute is this? It's my new yarn bank. Here it is next to what I was using before to keep my loose change.

So, it is definitely a good idea to have a yarn bank. I'm sure that I'll have to put more funds with these when I do actually go to buy yarn and I'll probably go to buy yarn a few times before the bank is actually full, but it's still a cool thing to have. Thanks SP!

A Productive Weekend

I have a couple finished projects to share. They are, of course, from the Happy Hooker book. The first is the One Skein Scarf. I shortened it a little and used the Paton's Merino that was called for in the pattern. This got me through the Oscars....Crash?!...Come on now, really??...

I love the way this Fit to Be Tied bag turned out. I will definitely make a couple of these. I used Cotton Fleece and I got the fabric and notions at P & S Fabrics, where I happened to run into Jill. It was my first time there and I'm trying to figure out why it took me so long to go! I have bitched and moaned about there not being a JoAnn's convenient to my apartment, but this place is just as good.

I Certainly Am A Happy Hooker!

Well, I finally got my copy today. After reading about it on other blogs, I was definitely anticipating the arrival of the book. I had to order it from ebay cause every place I went had already sold out or hadn’t even gotten the first shipment yet. And every time I went on amazon, “not yet released” was posted there, even though people had already posted pics of their FOs on Craftster. What was that about??? I was very antsy for a whole week, but that’s all behind me now, I have it in my possession…and I have read through the patterns several times…and love all of them. 2 friends have birthdays next week and I want to make a Fit to Be Tied bag and a Fat Bottom bag as their gifts. So I have to get crackin!! I know it’s March 1st and March is my non-yarn buying month, but I’ll let that slide this one time. I’m only gonna head to Michael’s for Lion Cotton. How much damage could I possibly do there, right? Right?
