Jammin at the zoo with Coachella

Last week we went to the Jammin at the zoo concert series in Lincoln Park. We went to see Toad the Wet Sprocket. It was the perfect night to debut Cocahella.

I used just under 4 skeins of Filatura Lanarota Summer Soft and discovered that if I go up 2 needle sizes when knitting in the round after I have already knitted (knat?)flat rows, there is no gauge change.

This was a very quick knit and not difficult at all.

I've found my crafty mojo! I started Coachella for me and a leaf tie cardi from Fitted Knits as a belated bday present for a friend. And I've gotten some sewing done. I have a dress all cut out but I'm hesitant to begin sewing because I never really know what size to cut. The measurements on the pattern don't really help me much, they actually kind of confuse me more. But while I get the nerve up to sew the dress, I worked on other projects.
Here is an Amy Butler Frenchy handbag. I used Denise Schmidt "Katie Jump Rope" fabrics. I love that entire collection.

I love this fabric too! I found it at Hancock's and they had only a little left, just enough for this top. It's by a Japanese designer...can't remember the name and the name was written in Japanese characters on the fabric.

I might make another top soon, but wish me luck on tackling the dress!

Hello all! It's been a while, huh? Well, I can't say that I've been doing much. This has truly been a summer of leisure. I haven't even really crafted all that much. I knit way more when I was working full time than I do now and that's insane...because when I was working, I always said that it was working that got in the way of my crafting and that hasn't been the case. I went home to visit my sis and her family, I've spent almost all the other weekends with Christian's family, and we spend as much time as possible with Wolfen at the dog beach.

He really loves going there. The first few times we would be there for hours cause we couldn't figure out how to get him back on the leash (all of his obedience flies out the window where there are other dogs frolicking about in the sand & water)but we finally figured out that if you get in the water when he's swimming back to shore to grab him, he can't dart away. (Can someone please sign us up to have Cesar come and whisper to Wolfen to come back to us when at the dog park/beach?)
But I do have a couple FOs to share. Both of them were started when we moved back in the end of April and just recently completed.

Here is the Juliet cardi from the Debbie Bliss Rialto book. I used an 80/20 pima cotton/angora blend by Ardadia. It's a smidge too big but I can still wear it.

This is a bag pattern from Suss that I made with Suss Sparkle and lined with some fabric I found on Ebay. The button and handles are from M&J Trim.

For about a week I was without internet and I almost went crazy...I'm so glad to have it now and wireless to boot! I haven't gotten much crafting done. I attempted to start the Print O' the Wave stole...about 10 times. And on the 11th time I got through one repeat, put in a lifeline and promptly screwed it up only to get the lifeline tangled in with everything else. So that's on a backburner. Then I started a little cardi by Debbie Bliss but it's nothing but garter stitch on 203 stitches for almost 11 inches. I'll spare you the boring pic of my progress but here is the pic from the Rialto booklet I am working from. Who knows if this will ever get done cause I'm only about a quarter of the way through the sea of garter goodness. Hopefully, today our stuff will get delivered and I can find another project to start work on, or maybe even finish something that's been languishing on the needles...hey, finishing something, what a concept!!

This is my first clapotis ever! Can you believe it? I'm not sure what took me so long to make it...it's simple, goes rather quickly and is beautiful! I used the Blue Heron that I bought with a gift cerftificate that I won at The Point during Vicki Howell's visit.

Can you see the sparkle? I intended to have this done for a wedding last weekend, but it didn't turn out that way.

The night that we left Manhattan, we met up with a few folks for one last drink. It just so happens that the place was also a karaoke bar. How did that happen? I think everyone had a fun time. Thanks to everyone who came out.

We found a new place to live, hopefully we can move in within the next 2 weeks.

And, we got engaged! No date yet, the planning will have to wait until after we get settled.

On the knitting front, I've done very little. I finished up this baby beanie for a co-worker before I left Manhattan.

But I did find my local yarn shop. It's called Loopy Yarns and they have a table where you can knit and chat, especially during their open knit night on Fridays. I think I'll like this place even though I miss everyone at The Point terribly.

Bev and I knit the Flair at the same time. She used Louet Gems worsted and I used Lionbrand Cottonease. We both got our buttons at MJ Trimming (oh how I miss thee, MJ!) Hers is assymetrical and a little longer and mine buttons down the center. Cute, huh?

Mostly everyone knows this, but we are headed back to Chi-town at the end of the month. The boy accepted a job out there...I am very excited and very sad all at the same time. In the (almost)3 years that I have lived out here, I’ve met some really wonderful people…especially the folks at the SnB group. New York is an awesome city, but it can definitely be a grind. My relationship with the city can truly be described as a love/hate relationship, but no matter how crappy I felt when I walked into the Point on Tuesday nights, I always left feeling recharged and ready to face any bullshit that the city could (and would) throw my way. I have to wrap this up now cause I’m sitting here crying at my work desk, but I just want everyone to know that I will REALLY miss you, I was blessed to have met you and that you’re all welcome to stay with me if you find yourself in Chicago...and I hope we do keep in touch. Enough mushy stuff, I’ll leave you with these:

My friend, Kenyatta, commissioned me to make some pieces for her since she got her first real, grown-up corporate job (she's proffed, tutored and consulted from a home office...kudos to anyone who can make it to their 30's without being a slave to the man...but she did say that it's great to have benefits, and that government benefits are THE BOMB!)
I made this necklace from carnelian, jade and bali sterling.

This necklace I made using the same shell and seed beads as my earrings.

And since I was in the bead store, I picked up another little something for me. These chunky, lovely beads caught my eye and I had to have them. I'm not sure what they are but they are semi-precious stones.

Well, I couldn't find any big enough for me to want to fiddle with and the hook & eye tape cost more than I was willing to pay...$22/yd at Hancock fabrics...what?? So here she is with NO closure, and I love it. I used Svale by Dale of Norway in the color mist...nice and soft, yum.

Not only did she speak on her book, but she collected money for Knitter's Without Borders, charity hats and had everyone knit a 9x7 inch square for Warm Up America while we sat and listened. The person I made the Mason-Dixon bibs showed them to her mom and her mom requested that I make bibs for her two cousins that are expecting also. Here is the first set of Petal bibs from One Skein, using Rowan Handknit cotton. These are really quick to make, but man, is that a lot of i-cord! I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to use Minx's i-cord maker...maybe I'll figure it out in time to make the next 3. 3 is a nice round number, don't you think?

I've been tagged...
So here are some weird things about me you might not know...

1) Mouth noises annoy me to the nth degree. Chewing with mouths open, gum cracking, sloppy kissing....can't stand it. It's akin to dragging fingernails across a chalkboard. I got off a train once to flee the noise of a couple very noisily making out cause apparently they couldn't wait until they got home. I decided that they were both cheating on their mates and could only make out on train rides since they couldn't go back to each other's apts. (If you see me on the train by myself, I will always have my I pod on...always.)

2) I need to listen to the soundtrack of R.E.N.T. at least once a day to function....over the mooooooon!

3) I substitute Wolfen or Wolf wherever possible into songs when I sing to myself. Wolf don't need no education...was going thru my head this morning...Hey! Teacher! Leave those Wolves alone!

4) I can't touch shrimp or the like with the legs on. And it's not that I won't do it, I can't physically bring myself to do it. I can eat them, boy can I eat them, but someone has to peel them for me. Christian chased me thru the parking lot of a Joe's Crab Shack with a crawfish that he had hidden in his pocket one time. I seriously ran for my life.

5) I'm really obsessive about buying makeup. I love Sephora! But if you know me, think hard...have you actually ever seen me wear makeup? Probably not.

6) I wipe Wolfen's paws everytime we come in from a walk. Wouldn't you want the scuzz of NYC cleaned off your feet too? (maybe that's not weird, does anyone else do this?)

For Baby...

I made these bibs for a co-worker. The pattern is basically the bib pattern from Mason-Dixon knitting. However, I didn't want to do just plain garter stitch so I used patterns from the knitting knonsense website to make designs with purl and knit stitches. The yellow is a star, the purple spells love and the turquoise has a heart.

The burp cloths are also from Mason-Dixon. They work up rather quickly.

And I just love the buttons!

I think it's really funny that I own just about every Rowan pattern available (well, not every, but a lot!) but this is my first full sweater by one of their designers. It's the Pampas pattern from book 40. It's a very quick knit, again, I finished the knitting quite some time ago but the putting together part takes me a minute. I went to M&J for plain dum dum buttons cause I crocheted button covers. The first buttons I looked at just to figure out what size would work were $7 each. I asked the guy for something cheesy cause they were gonna get covered anyway and I didn't want to spend $21 on buttons that no one was gonna see...that's about the price for any button of that size, was what he told me. F-that! What is with the customer service in this city?...that's really an issue with me! So I had to find $3 buttons on my own when he easily could have at the very least pointed me in the right direction.

Despite the fact that the Bears did not win the Super Bowl (I still love you, Lovie!), a couple great things did come out of this weekend. One, I finished up the Ms. Marigold vest from Zephyr Style. At first I wasn't sure that I would add the ruffle, but I decided to do only 2 rows of crochet instead of the 5 rows suggested by the pattern...It gives it a little flair. I used 4 skeins of Classic Elite Premiere. The pattern is easy and it went quickly, I cast on less than a week ago.
Two, I discovered Footballers' Wives:Overtime on BBC. I caught the marathon on Sunday. Those Brits really know how to write good and naughty TV. I wonder if this will be another show that American producers will steal?

Last weekend was one of relaxation and respite from city life. Jill R was wonderful enough to invite us all up to Ancram again. We had a great time. There was a lot of movie watching, knitting, cooking and eating involved. Notice in the first pic all of the FOs that were completed over the weekend…13 in total, I think. Quite impressive, no? We seemed to be playing a game of 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon in our movie watching. We started out with Unfaithful (Richard Gere), then watched Chicago (Richard Gere/Christine Baranski), then watched Cruel Intentions (Christine Baranski/Sean Patrick Thomas), and flipped by Save the Last Dance (Sean Patrick Thomas). We opted to not watch that movie though, but I’m sure if we had, we probably would have ended up seeing a movie starring Kevin Bacon. Susi, Katy and Jill A. even made us a grand feast with roasted chicken (whole, not breasts!) one night. Now, that’s what I call a vacation!

I finally finished this bag! The pattern is in Knit2Together and of course I substituted yarn and used Knitpicks Wool of the Andes Bulky in taupe. The button and handles I got at....MJ Trimmings, but you knew that already, right? The fabric I've had for a long time. I orignially planned to use it for pillows but the fabric was really too slippery and I stashed it until now. There is a saga behind this bag. It only took a couple days to do the actual knitting, but the finishing....that took about 2 weeks. I cut out the lining and I felt all clever cause I decided to put a pocket in it. I went to pin it in the bag and it was too small! I then cut it completely down the middle and inserted a panel to make it fit. Of course, after I finished sewing in one side of the added panel, I saw that the raw edge of the seam was on the WRONG side! Rrriiiiiipppp! But even before the lining fiasco, I went to go and get the wooden dowels that help to keep the bag's shape along the top. People sold dowels, but they were all 36 in. long. I needed them to be 12 in. I asked the guy at Home Depot if it would be possible to get the rod cut into 12 in. pieces. It's possible, but we don't do it, was his answer. I bet I could get it done at the 24 hr Home Depot on North Ave in Chicago...I thought about calling for delivery. Instead, I journeyed to a mom and pop hardware shop. Same answer again, we don't cut them here. WTF??!! So I went ahead and bought a little handsaw so that I could cut the friggin thing myself...I mean, come on! But then it was time for the fun part...heading to MJ. Bev accompanied me and if you ask her, she'll tell you that this is not the original button purchased...I lost it! It's rolling around in my apartment somewhere. I gave up looking, went back to MJ, found another button and picked up different handles while I was there, why the heck not? Oh and I almost forgot about the teeny buttons I was gonna use as embellishment somewhere on the front near the lower right corner, yeah, those went missing too. I'll be checking Wolfen's humors, if you will, to see if I can close the case of the missing notions. But hey, at least I like the finished project.

It's finally blocked! The pattern is from Blue Sky Alpacas (the link is in the entry below) but I used Knitpicks Swish Superwash in Capri. I can't remember how many skeins cause I finished the knitting so long ago. I'm pretty pleased with it. Although the armpits were super tight so I wet blocked it to try to stretch them out, and that worked out OK.

It may not seem like it since I haven't posted in a while, but I have been very busy. I FINALLY got around to blocking the hooded sweater I finished in like, November! Hopefully it won't take too long to dry. It's drying on the coffee table with tray tables strategically positioned around it to keep Wolfen away if he decides to go investigating. Last night, I started sewing up the Doctor bag and I cut out the pieces for the lining. I cannot wait to carry this puppy! I finished a crocheted teddy bear weeks ago and I'm waiting on bean bag innards to fill it with. (Don't worry, it's for room decor not to give to the baby.) The Pampas cardi from Rowan is coming along, I've knit the back and a front. So, hopefully I'll have some entries for a 2007 FO Flickr set soon.

I looked back at my resolutions last year to see if I had accomplished them. Well....not really....I did stop buying yarn every couple weeks, but I haven't made a lace scarf or socks yet. But look at all the things I did get finished! I also have one more sweater that I still have to block. I'll try to get a picture up a little later this week. So I guess those 2 resolutions will roll over to 2007 and I'm going to add one more...to do more charity knitting.

Another gift is done! This is my second Swing Bag by Amy Butler. I have yet to make one for myself and that will be the fist sewing project on the list in 2007. I got the kokopelli fabric on ebay (C's mom loves all things that are native american) and the denim from P&S Fabrics. What will I do when that store is no longer?

I've been feverishly working on gifts. I'm done with the sweaters for my neice and nephew.

I got the pattern for this rainbow strawberry shortcake sweater from Wendy at Knit and Tonic. I used Lion Brand cotton-ease. The colors are really vibrant in real life.

I used the Style Your Own Kids' Knits book to make this sweater. I used Knitpicks Crayon and it's cuddly soft. I just have to get buttons for the shoulder. I'm hoping MJ Trimmings will have something to coordinate with the train...they've never let me down before.
Now, I still have to make a Swing bag and 3 hats. Hmmmm, well I'll definitely have the bag finished in time.

I made Wolfen a sweater over the weekend. I just finished seaming it up.

I used the Pampered Pooch pattern in Not Your Mama's Knitting. The only changes I made were to make the section around the tummy shorter than on his back and to intarsia the monogram on instead of embroidering it. Oh, and I had to do a little math because he has a large barrel chest compared to the rest of him. I think it turned out alright and I think he likes it. Well, he tolerated me poking and prodding to take measurements and to try it on him at least.

It's Like Christmas, A Month Early!

I've gotten sooo many goodies in the mail over the past week. My International Scarf Exchange pal sent a beautiful scarf made of baby alpaca. It's really cushy soft. And she sent a ton of other treats too.

I joined another swap at Swap-bot, of course, and received this great yarn in earthy colors and other great treats.

These books arrived yesterday...

As did this huge Knitpicks order.

I said I wasn't going to make any gifts this season, but I'll make a couple. The line-up goes from left to right: A sweater for my nephew in Crayon, armwarmers in Elegance, the Pampered Pooch sweater (from Heather's book)in Salishan, the doctor bag in Knit2Tog in WOTA Bulky, Toasty Toasties (also from Heather's book) in Decadence, a hat and neckwarmer combo in Decadence and legwarmersin Wakashan....mind you, that 3 of the 8 things are for myself :)

I finished the scarf for the exchange I joined. I used 2 skeins of Cascade Cloud 9, which is 50% Merino & 50% Angora. I purchased the yarn at my very local yarn store, Knitting & Stitching. A yarn store I can walk to...Yay!

Notice Sweet Georgia Brown modeling the scarf? Well, I've been wanting one of these adjustable dress forms for ages! One day I was complaining to my boss how I really wanted a serger but my apartment was too small to house any more crafting things and how I really wanted a dress form but I didn't want to pay retail for it. And she goes, Oh, I have one. You can have mine, I almost threw it out yesterday because my husband wants it out of the house. Needless to say, I was at her place bright and early the next morning to pick up Georgia. Projcet Runway...here I come! OK, maybe not, but I can dream!

It's been a while, eh? Well, I'm still crafting. I started my scarf for the exchange that I joined and am over half way through it. I haven't been knitting that much though lately. I've been obsessed with finishing this dress.

It's McCall's #5137. I used some of the fabric that I got from Mood a while back. Yes, it's cotton and yes, it's cool outside, but darn it, I'm gonna wear it! I even made it twice cause the first time it was waaaay too big. The second time it was still too big on top and I had to take it up in the shoulders...I was determined to have a wearable garment after all was said and done. After I finished the first time, I read on patternreview.com that just about everyone made 2 sizes smaller than the measurements specified. So, if you're gonna make this dress, definitely go with a smaller size. I met friends for tea today and I got a couple compliments on it, so it's a go. Now, I can get back to knitting.

I was in Toronto over the weekend and took only one project with me to GET IT DONE! And I did! Finally, an FO. Here is the pinwheel blanket that was supposed to be done 2 weeks ago. I'm meeting up with my preggers friend on Wednesday so I hope it's dry so I can get it out of my life. I worked on this off and on, mostly on, for about 4 weeks and I'm glad that it's off my needles. I thought baby knits are supposed to be easy and fun? I guess I just pick the wrong baby projects cause this was another one that I stopped enjoying working on. It wasn't difficult, it just took forever... I guess it's because I should have done it at a bigger guage. I used 7 balls of Rowan 4-ply CashCotton, double-stranded on US #6 needles.

PS: I didn't get to Lettuce Knit cause we stayed in the suburbs and not Toronto proper...maybe next time!

and that's the truth! We spent the week up in the Finger Lakes on Lake Keuka. We did have basic cable but I was cut-off from the World Wide Web...eeekk! It was only a week but I couldn't wait to get back to the city to check my email, blog surf, etc... We did have fun. It's wine country up there and we visited a couple of the wineries and came back with a case of wine. It will take us years to drink it all...I think I have to plan some get-togethers so I have an excuse to crack open the bottles.

I got Mason-Dixon Knitting a while ago and here is my first project from the book.

I made these for my One Skein Secret Pal. I also made her these:

They came from Jimmy Beans Wool and I didn't order them. There wasn't a note enclosed so I'm assuming they are from my One Skein Secret Pal. I've never felted before and these will be a nice first felting project. Thanks Pal!

I have another one! I finished the Razor cami. I used 5.5 balls of Jaeger Albany on #5 needles. The only change I made to the pattern was to do a 3 stitch I-cord for the straps. Oh, and I also split for the front and back at a different place than the pattern called for. I saw on the knitalong where people said that the straps ended up in the arm pit so I tried it on and figured out where I wanted the straps to be and split for the front and back that way.

The lace pattern is super easy to remember...it's just 2 rows with the 2nd row being a knit row. My top rolls a bit after blocking so you might want to finish it a little differently.

When Michelle was here, she asked me to teach her how to knit. She happens to be left-handed. I tried to teach her the english way, cause that's how I knit...but that didn't work out too well. I finaly figured out how to knit continental (which I've been wanting to do for the longest) so that I could show her that way. That worked out better and by the time she left, she had a nice garter swatch knit up.

An End to a Summer of Baseball

This past weekend, Christian's team got knocked out of the playoffs for baseball. 4 months of baseball has come to an end. Yippee!! Shhh, don't tell him I said that. Every weekend, we've treked out to Great Neck or somewhere near there out on Long Island. Here are some pics:

Sizzle it, Just a little bit

I finished Sizzle. It feels like I haven't actually finished knitting anything in a long time. But I'm beginning to reconcile with the fact that I love to make lists and I love to start projects, but finish them...that's another story.

I didn't have any problems with the pattern, which was great after the (Blue)Green Gable fiasco...that one's on the backburner for now. The Sizzle pattern was so easy to follow that if I didn't have about 150 or so projects en queue, I would make another one.
I also made another handbag. It's McCall pattern #5151.

Yeah, so what if this one is denim, too? I must have bought all the denim in the store that day (being that I also have enough for a skirt)...well, at least it's getting used. This bag is for another swap that I signed up for on Swap-bot. Do you know of this site which is my latest obsession? I think I'm currently signed up for 10 swaps. Go check it out when you get a chance.

Feelin a Little Moody

Today I went to Mood Fabric, the shop they always go to on Project Runway. That place is fabulous! There is bolt, on top of bolt, on top of bolt (I could go on) of fabrics. And they have all kinds of designer fabrics, too. I spied some Pucci prints that will have to wait until I am much better with the Kenmore. I did pick up these pretties though and they are in the wash right now.

They'll be dresses one day, soon hopefully.

Over the weekend, I got together my package for the Aug Color Swap. This month's colors are the colors of the rainbow. I made this Swing bag (pattern by Amy Butler) from random fabric I found at P&S.

It's reversible but I like the denim side out the best. I think I'm going to try one more skirt pattern and then tackle a dress pattern. I've been looking for an adjustable dress form, man are those things expensive! I refuse to pay retail for one (I rarely pay retail for anything..I guess cause I've always worked in retail in some way or another), so if you know of where I can get a deal on one, please pass on the information.

Ok, well I was actually on my way to City Bakery for my book discussion group, but I was wearing my newly finished Cabo halter. The zipper wasn't all THAT terrible to put in, and yes it's a little wonky, but I can live with it.

This IS the first garment that I made all by myself. I might make another one of these as I've definitely caught the sewing bug...especially when I have people like Erica to inspire me.

I went back to Suss. I know I said I wouldn't go back but all week I had dreams of all that cotton I saw when I went on Tuesday. Of course none of that cotton was there when I went back today, the last day. And going back in the last hours of the final day was really part of my plan to keep my purchases low. I still managed to walk out with with lots of Perle cotton and a Katia magazine.

After spending only $20 on 12 skeins and a pattern book, I headed over to the Point where I formally met the Spiders...I read their blogs and it was nice to meet and greet today.

I got tons of presents today. First, I got my yarn from Yarnmonster today, hand delivered nonetheless. Isn't it purty? It's the Sailing colorway, can't wait to knit up some stripey socks.

I also got some Berroco Denim Silk that I want to make into Sizzle.

Lastly, I received my Coloriffic swap package where everything had to be brown and light blue. It came all the way from Portugal! There was yarn, a handcrafted needle roll and pin cushion, lots of other goodies and some treats for Wolfen too!

It will be worth your time. Unfortunately, she is closing her Manhattan store but fortunately she's getting rid of her inventory. And the prices are good...real good...i want to go back... Here is what I walked away with, and I am promising myself right now, with you all and God as my witnesses, that I WILL NOT go back and buy more.

First up is the Fishnet that I had been eyeing for a while and the shrug I plan to make with it:

about not knitting on Fridays. This past Friday I made jewelry...which I haven't done in AGES.
I joined the Colorific swap at Swap-Bot. This month's color theme was brown and light blue. I made this set to go in the package I sent.

It's turquoise and tiger's eye.
And I made this for a friend's birthday.

I picked up some tubes with different kinds of seed beads, bugles and rocailles and triple-stranded them. Here's a close-up:

I'm also almost done with the Cabo halter. I just need to sew in the zipper and hem it. I had to order an invisible zipper foot, I've never put in a zipper before so I figured I should get the correct equipment so things will go as smoothly as possible. I went to Hancock's and Joann's websites and couldn't find what I needed at either so I found one on ebay...you just gotta love ebay!

How Was Your Fourth?

My office was closed from Friday afternoon until this (Wednesday) morning. I was really excited to have a mini-vaca where I would get soooo much work done, you know, crafting work. Well, let’s see, I did a little sewing on the Cabo halter and I finished the back of the Buttercup shrug and started a front.

This little piece of front was a lot of work. You can’t tell from the pic but there are lots of picots involved…but my picots look like mini bobbles and I hate the way it looks. I just decided that I’m gonna rip it out, leave out the picot bobbles and put a seed stitch border on it instead. I think I’ll be much happier with the end result and it should go much faster without all that cast on, cast off business. So, to sum it up, I didn’t get as much work done as I had hoped. I was very busy, mind you, but busy doing what I can’t tell you, I have nothing to show for it.

Edit: The color of the yarn isn't that vibrant. It's softer but still very colorful.

I know it's been a while, but I have been crafting! I spent the weekend in MD with my friend Kenyatta. I took the bus so I had plenty o' time to "Do Stuff"...especially when you hit rush hour traffic in 3 different states (whew!)
The Sweet Pea shawl is pretty much done. I just need to add the fringe.

The next time you see this, I'll be dressed for a wedding.
The Somewhat Cowl only needs it's cowl and the (blue)Green Gable, well, let's just say it won't be done in time to be an FO for this month's Project Spectrum. It's off the needles AGAIN. It was too big when I tried it on and after I ripped back, I didn't put the stitches back on the needle correctly so the raglan increase is all funky. I'm letting that project marinate since I've already cast on for the Pia top that's in Rowan mag 35.

Yarn crawlin, that is. On Saturday, despite the rain, we went on the first part of the yarn crawl. We started off at The Point, of course.

Then we headed over to Purl and Purl Patchwork.

Edit: Here is a pic of us (Liz, myself and Katy knit while Maria spins)waiting for Purl to open. Luckily, the restaurant next door neglected to pull up the awning the night before and we were able to take shelter from the rain.

There is a halter pattern in the Rowan book that I must add to the 'To Do'list.

My last purchase of the day was this fabric and a pattern for the Amy Butler Cabo halter. I really thought about 'being sick' yesterday so I could work on it but decided to save it for my No Knitting Friday.
After lunch, we continued on to Suss and hung out there for a while to wait out the rain. Everyone else went to Knitty City after that but I had to head home. Oh, and when we were in Soho, I had a celebrity sighting of Julianna Margulies.

I've decided that I spend too much time knitting......gasp! The first thing I do when I roll out of bed is knit, I spend my lunch hour knitting, I knit when I get home in between looking at other people's knitting blogs. It's all too much, because I really do have other interests. So I've decided that since I have summer Fridays and get out of work early, I WILL NOT KNIT during this free time. Any other crafts are fair game. I recently purchased Subversive Cross Stitch, and I want to have a jewelry trunk show sometime this summer (but I can't sell it if I don't make it), and I haven't read a book in ages. So I'm declaring Fridays to be No Knitting Fridays.

PS...I'm in a better mood. The music from Roll Bounce was my knitting soundtrack at the park today.

I didn't do much crafting this weekend. And I didn't get any BBQ either. I'm bummed about that cause I have a BBQ timer that goes off only on Memorial Day and Labor Day, the rest of the year it doesn't even cross my mind. I hopped on the band wagon and cast on for the Green Gable, and didn't touch the Sweet Pea shawl at all. Good thing I have a month to finish it.

Edit: I actually wasn't that lazy. I cleaned the apartment and that includes cleaning under the bed...eeekkk! There were lots of surprises waiting for me under there.

I couldn't resist...I had to go the Lion and the Lamb on the last day. I took an "executive" lunch and went up there Friday afternoon. It seems like I left a little before Heather got there. She's finally finished! I just put the belt loops on my Starsky cardigan. Boy, I love how after a year of knitting I'm still learning new things with every project. Yes, this is antoher project of firsts. My first cabling project, my first sweater that I had to seam together (the shoulders were tricky!),the first time I picked up stitches (thanks Rebecca for showing me how) and the first time I successfully blocked.

Over the past week, I made a skirt with fabric I got at Purl Patchwork. I had someone help me with it because it was my first attempt at making something that wasn't square or rectangular. I think it turned out quite nicely, rick-rack and all.

I didn't get too much done over the weekend. Kenyatta came in for a quick visit and to go to our friend's baby shower.

This is me and Jen at the Harlem Tea Room. You guessed it, she's the preggers one, with only 7 more weeks to go.
It was my first time going to tea and I want to do it every chance I get now...African Outback is my new favorite flavor. Over the course of the afternoon, it was cool to see the mix of people that came through. There were young couples, groups of older women (wearing their fabulous hats, of course) and another shower there as well. Check it out, if you get the chance.

Here's That Damned Sweater

This is the baby sweater that took me over a month to finish. I like it and it's cute but there is no way I will ever make it again. I cussed and fussed the ENTIRE time I knit this up. Such small needles (#4) and ALL garter stitch ALL the time. I read about knitting karma while working on this and I hope that the baby doesn't ever feel any ill will towards me cause this is the only project that I did not enjoy working on.one.bit. Don't babies look better in chunky knits anyway? This experience prompted me to order this book and this book. And to think I ALMOST made a coordinating hat but I couldn't muster up the gumption, besides I have to finish another present for a friend's bithday tomorrow anyway.

That was the motto of Easter weekend. Well, nothing scandalous actually happened, I just get a kick out of saying that. A bunch of us went up to Jill R's country home to hang out, relax, unwind and of course...knit! (I even finished that damned baby sweater...yes I said damned!) We had a great time. We watched movies, ate home cooked meals and took walks to the river. I think everyone in the group should chip in money to buy a house in the country and then schedule who gets to go up which weekend with at least one weekend a quarter set aside for the SnB gals.

We acutally put our sticks down to enjoy the scenery.

Blocking Trepidation

I've knitted all the pieces for Starsky. They are waiting patiently to be blocked. I'm very afraid to take this next step. The last thing I blocked was this:

...it GREW and I never wore it after taking this picture. I don't want the same thing to happen again. I read on someone else's blog that they steam blocked their pieces and they turned out lovely but this yarn itches me and I want it to soak in Eucalan. Does anyone have any pointers for me before I take the plunge?

Here is my ballet tee. This is another quick knit, completed in a couple evenings. I used Cotton Fleece in Coral Sunset. Teva Durham's patterns are enjoyable to knit. I just got the yarn for the Ibiza stripe shirt today...which was a nice surprise because Webs said that one of the colors was on backorder for about 3 weeks and it didn't take very long at all.

Notice the FO? The Steek Yarnover Vest from Loop D Loop. I used GGH Goa (on #15's)because I didn't see any other bulky cottons at the LYS. Jess said that I could probably use Rowan Cotton Tape. I might try the pattern in that yarn too cause this is a very quick knit....within a few hours, you're done.
